Guide for the Final Exam


Vocabulary:

 

1.  Can you identify and utilize the vocabulary from each chapter in your writing?

*The vocabulary from Chapter 2 (33, 36) will not be actively included in the test, but an occasional word may be used.  You should be able to recognize this vocabulary.

 

Grammar:

 

1.      Are you able to determine when to use the verb "ser" versus the verb "estar" given the meaning and context surrounding a sentence?

2.      Can you determine which object is a direct object or indirect object? Do you know how to replace either object with its corresponding pronoun? Are you able to replace both objects at the same time?

3.      Is it clear to you when you should and when you should not use definite and indefinite articles?

4.      Are you able to conjugate the Matrix of commonly used verbs in the present, preterit, and imperfect tenses?  Do you remember which verbs in the preterit are stem-changing versus those in the present?  Can you use the zig-zag system to determine the conjugation endings of the semi-irregular verbs?  What were the irregular preterit verbs?  What were the only three irregular imperfect verbs?

5.      Can you determine when to use the preterit versus the imperfect?  How does the model of the theatre help in this determination?  What do you do in cases of an action being interrupted?  Have you studied the list of verbs (p. 37) whose meaning differs when it is used in the preterit tense versus the imperfect?  Could you create or answer a series of interview questions written in the past (preterit and/or imperfect)?

6.      Can you determine when to use the preposition “por” versus the preposition “para”?  Have you memorized the list of fixed or idiomatic phrases on page 41?

7.      Have you studied all the vocabulary for this chapter 2. Are you able to write each type of comparison sentence? Have you studied the irregular forms and do you remember when to use each type of comparison sentence?

8.      When do you use a superlative sentence?

9.      Are you able to form and use the past participle as an adjective?

10.  How do you construct the present perfect and pluscuamperfect? Have you studied all the irregular forms? When do you use one form versus the other?

11.  Have you practiced forming the future and conditional tenses? When do you use them in real life? Have you studied all the irregular forms? 

12.  Can you construct the future perfect and conditional perfect tenses?  Do you remember when to use these constructions in expressions of probability?

13.  Have you made a list of reasons to justify the use of each preposition (de, a, en con)?  Can you come up with a model of each?

14.  Could you write a dialogue or a paragraph related to the activities that we have completed in class?

15.  Can you construct all three forms of the passive voice (passive “ser”, the descriptive passive, and passive “se”) from a sentence given to you in the active tense?  In what context would you use each of the forms of the passive voice?  Did you remember to check noun-verb and subject-adjective agreement?

16.  What is the difference in form and also in meaning between the passive “se” construction and the impersonal voice?

17.  El se pasivo y el se impersonal

18.  How do we create a "No fault" construction and under what conditions would we use this verb construction?

19.  Are you able to give examples or use each of the previous grammatical points in your writing?
